Thong And X Works As The First Ever International Entry In Super GT To Score Points With 7th Place finish

After a disastrous weekend at Okayama for Thong and X Work Racing’s debut which saw the #33 Eva Unit-01 Nismo Gtr GT3 caught in an unavoidable accident. Shaun and his teammates bounce back to score a 7th place finish at Fuji 500km and sets the history for being the first ever international team to score points in Super GT history !!

On Saturday Shaun Thong put his Eva GT-R in 8th place in Q1 out of 29 GT300 entries, scoring his second consecutive Top 16 Q1 result to bring the car into Q2 for teammate Marchy Lee. Lee then qualified 15th with a Medium - Hard compound Yokohama tires.

On race day the weather once again hit us hard with unstable conditions near the start, rain started to land with less than 10 minutes to green flag and Thong who was given the role to start held his position well despite horrendous conditions and made no mistakes. The team kept Thong out with wet tires until lap 45 where the tracked started to dry up. Shinya Michimi then handled the second stint which the #33 GT-R fought all the way from 15th to 7th and finally Marchy Lee taking the checkered flag in 7th with just 0.149s behind 6th place.

“It was a relief for myself and everyone in X Works and EVA Racing, we had such a bad luck in Okayama and at one point we were worried about not making into this race as the team has to fit in a new chassis after the accident. Hence the mechanics and staff in Nismo helped us a lot to provide us a flawless car this week.”

“Right now i couldn’t express how happy i am and the team is, this 7th place finish means a lot to us as a new team here in Super GT. All drivers did their stint in the best way possible while the mechanics also executed all pitstops without a single mistake, hence this result belongs to every single personnel within the team and no one could have achieved this alone !”

Round 3 of the Super GT will be held in Suzuka Circuit on 25-26 May, 2019 with the #33 Eva GT-R currently standing at 11 overall with 4 points.
