It was an eventful weekend in Sepang International Circuit for Shaun Thong in his Thailand Super Series debut to take home a second and third place finish in the 2013 Audi R8 LMS Ultra racing against newer generations of GT3 machines together with teammate Sandy Stuvik.

The #2 B-Quik Racing R8 LMS Ultra started from Pole Position in Race 1 and remains in the race lead until Shaun’s teammate Sandy had a slow puncture which cost the pair the race lead before the pit window slot. Thong rejoins the field at 8th position after the pitstop with a 52 seconds pitstop time surplus to their competitors due to the Silver - Silver driver lineup pairing. Thong pushes his R8 LMS Ultra to the limit and fight back from 8th to 2nd to score his debut podium with B-quik Racing.

“First of all i am very happy to have City of Dreams from Penang supporting me for the Thailand Super Series debut here at Sepang, Malaysia. Without them i wouldn’t be here racing this week with B-Quik Racing and it is my pleasure to be on the podium together with them in both our debut. The race was tricky as it is not easy at all to race against the newer generations of GT3 cars, however me and Sandy we both did our best to maximise the performance from the R8 LMS Ultra and i think we put up a really good fight against all the other competitors considering the extra 52 seconds we have to compensate during the pitstop.” Said Thong.

In Race 2 the City of Dreams supported #2 B-Quik Racing R8 LMS Ultra crossed the line in 3rd place with just 0.139 seconds behind 2nd place’s Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo to complete a double podium finish for Shaun.

Thong expressed “The start was super close and i almost took the race lead but our competitors has a better car with better braking performance. I was on the limit for the whole first stint and Sandy also made a superb stint to recover our pitstop deficit. It is my first race in the championship and with the team hence i am very pleased to be scoring this result considering we are racing an older generation GT3 car.”

“So far the deal is one-off and thank you Ewein Zenith, the developer of City of Dreams in Penang for supporting me here in their home race. I am looking forward to work again with them and also i believe from our driver pairing there is a good chance for us to fight for the 2019 title !” Thong explained.

Thong now stands 3rd in the Thailand Super Series GT3 championship with 33 Points, next race of the TSS championship will head back to Thailand’s Buriram Circuit in June, followed up by the famous Bangsaen Street Circuit and ending again in Buriram.
