Podium Finish in Thailand Wraps Up Thong's LMP2 Debut Season In High

2019 - 2020 Asian LeMans Series

Just one week after Rd.3 in Sepang International Circuit, the Asian Le Mans finale arrives at Buriram and Thong scores a podium finish together with K2 Uchino Racing to mark their first ever podium finish.

After showing both strong outright and race pace from Rd.3 at the Sepang International Circuit, Thong and K2 Uchino Racing are looking to finish their debut season in high. With the boost of local knowledge from Thong having competed here numerous times before, as well as his teammate Haruki Kurosawa who has been a frequent visitor for the Super GT calendar since 2016.

The #96 K2 Uchino Racing started the 4 Hours of Buriram from 5th but quickly moved up to 2nd place and was hunting down the leader. The opening stint fromm Thong showed promising pace once again and was battling hard with the #45 Carlin Racing Dallara shortly before the first pit stop.

The race was be humid and which saw the tires struggled in extreme heat. Thong said “Managing the tires will be critical as the track temperature is hot, it is more important to keep a consistent pace rather than fastest lap and that’s what always works in this circuit”.

Thong and his teammate finally landed a 3rd place finish after 4 Hours. “We were definitely goo for a podium at Sepang last week but we had pit stop problems and i believe both the drivers and the team learnt from it and we are still looking to improve further. It is a good result for us as this is just our third LMP2 race together and it really serves as a confidence boost for us ! What a nice way to end the season and i hope to be back with them soon again” Said Thong.
