Thong to Compete with Evangelion Racing In the 2021 Hankook Super Taikyu Series
Shaun Thong from Hong Kong is no stranger to both the Super Taikyu Series and Evangelion Racing. He will enter the top Japanese endurance championship as the reigning champion from 2020 after securing the title in the overall category and ST-X class with Hirix Good Day Racing. At the same time it also marks that Thong and Evangelion Racing driver for the third year since his debut in the 2019 Super GT in Japan with the X Works Racing operated crew.
Thong will join Audi Team AS Racing in the 2021 Super Taikyu Series ST-Z class, which equivalent to the FIA GT-4 category that runs worldwide. Audi Team AS Racing entered this particular championship since 2020 and runs as the sole Audi R8 LMS GT4 Evo in Japan. Thong on the other hand joined the team with previous experiences with the Audi R8 LMS GT4 from his previous Dubai 24 Hours back in 2018 with Phoenix Racing GmBH which saw Thong and his teammate winning the race but later being penalised to 2nd due to pit lane infringement.
Thong will join force with a full Japanese driver lineup including Genki Nishimura, Shozo Tagahara, Takeyuki Okamoto and Nosei Fujiwara.
Thong said “I am delighted to be driving with EVA Racing once again and its an amazing opportunity. Since the test day we made major changes to the car and we are definitely finding pace and balance and still need some refinement and fine tuning. The ST-Z class in 2021 will also be the most competitive among the whole field which 16 entries are confirmed at Round. 1 Motegi 5 Hours.
I will push hard and try to repeat results as we did last year even thought we know it is going to be very very difficult. But all we can do is to make sure our team is prepared and ready to push it to the limit.
