Thong confirmed 2022 GT World Challenge Asia Program alongside X Works Racing

X Works Racing Audi R8 LMS Evo at Macau Grand Prix 2021

Official Audi Sport Asia a Shaun Thong team up David Pun in the new Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II entry by Hong Kong outfit X Works for the Malaysian season-opener at the 5.543km Sepang International Circuit.

Audi Sport Asia driver Shaun Thong from Hong Kong, China has made his mark in single seater, GT, LMP and touring car competition, mastering both sprint and endurance racing. His titles so far include the GT Asia Series Pro-Am Championship in 2016, Silver Cup Champion in the 2017 Blancpain GT Asia Series and more recently the 2020 Super Taikyu Series ST-X Championship in Japan.

David Pun, meanwhile, has proven himself in single seater, sportscar, one-make, GT4 and GT3 competition, finishing runner-up in the GT3 class of the GT Super Sprint Challenge in China last season.

Thong said “I am looking forward to be racing in this championship again, we had great success in the past together with Audi Sport Asia and to be continuing this relationship is definitely something special. Of course this year we are in the Pro-Am class but i believe it will be the most competitive category as well. It is important that we work as a team and make sure both me and David can extract the maximum performance out from the car and ourselves.”

X Works is no stranger to Asian’s top level GT racing, having to ran Audi Hong Kong entries from 2016 until the team found themselves competing in Japan Super GT 300 Series, alongside Shaun Thong and team owner Marchy Lee in 2019 onwards.

This year the Hong Kong outfit returns to the Fanatec AWS GT World Challenge Asia with a 2 cars entry in Pro-Am Class to maximise their title bid.
