Shaun Thong returns to Asia’s only 24 Hours race, Super Taikyu Fuji 24 Hours, where he was crowned champion in the series and winner of the Fuji 24 Hours in 2020 with Hirix Goodday Racing.

This year Thong will mark his 5th start in the Iconic Mount. Fuji 24 Hours race since 2018, where he previously made 2 starts for Phoenix Racing Asia and X Works in the ST-X Class with an Audi R8 LMS, also having raced with AS Racing / Evangelion Racing last year in ST-Z GT4 class but the highlight was winning on his 3rd attempt in 2020 with a Mercedes AMG GT3 EVO with Hirix Racing.

“I am always excited to be in this event, it felt like a ritual for myself due to various reasons. It is the only 24 Hours race in Asia plus it’s an event where I shared lots of memories especially from 2020 where we won after the car caught fire and we eventually recovered from that and brought home the crown. Somehow it still felt like yesterday! “

Shaun will be joining Yuya Hiraki, Reiji Hiraki and Yukata Toriba this year to seek the team’s first victory on their Super Taikyu ST-X Class debut season. The Hiraki brothers ran Helm Motorsports are no strangers to Super Taikyu, having ran previously in ST-3 Class with a Lexus RC350 and won the class last year in 2021, furthermore the team has extended their programs into the Japanese F4 and Super formula Lights.

Thong believes that the team is capable of winning in combination of having a strong driver lineup and also with his past experience with the Nismo GT-R GT3 where he spent a season in 2019 with X Works on their Super GT300 debut, ultimately it brought them 4 top 10 points finishes and a 100% super pole record on their debut.

Thong is confident on a potential race win
